  • (July 1959) More than 20,000 football fans traveled to Hershey Stadium to watch 33 young Keystone State gridders win over some of the nation's top football talent. Two of the big men up front were Bernie Sabol, of Coal Township, and Keith Hinkle, of Ashland. Among the gridders from the 1958 Big Team who received congratulations from Coach Bernie Biermann was Joseph Pesansky, ex-Shamokin Catholic High School star who is now at University of Richmond. Coach Bernie Biermann, of Minnesota fame, is surrounded by the stars who gave him a Big 33 triumph in last year's game. The ailing grid great was unable to assume the coaching chores, but was honored. Raising the flag are Rusty Curtis and Cindy Byerly. Gov. David Lawrence helped cheer state high school gridders to their win.
