(Early 1978) Shamokin warehouse- Formerly the PPL building, this sat behind Walnut Towers (Coal Hole) until it was torn down in 2006. In March of 2005, the warehouse was moved across town to Mill Road Square, at Shakespeare and Franklin streets. The police station was relocated there later that year.

  • Shamokin Police- In the early days of the town, police protection was let to volunteers. Policeman were appointed to every ward and given the authority to make arrests. This system was found to be inadequate due to the town's rapid growth. On April 2, 1889, the paid police force was established by council. The first force consisted of Chief J.A. Weaver and four officers. <br /> <br /> Pictured in this studio portrait are, front row, from left, Joe Payne, Will Jackman, J. Condron, Zerbe, and Eisenhart; back, Chief Burgess William H.R. Smink, and Chief W. Gilman. Smink was elected chief burgess in 1893.

  • (08.16.53) Cpl. Frank Damian, of the Shamokin Detail, Pa. State Police, puts the sledge to a number of slot machines during “Operation Smash-up.” The machines were confiscated from various clubs and establishments in the region.
  • (July 1954) Ray D. Marshall, county detective, throws more fuel on the fire as 173 punch boards and 34 slot machines are destroyed. The devises were confiscated in six months by local police.
