  • Heweso Silk Mill- The City began demolition of the former Heweso Silk Mill, at Third and Walnut streets, on July 9, 1987. It was eventually converted to a metered parking lot. The lot was sold in 2015.

  • M.L. Cleaners- At one time, owner Morris Lashay operated the largest dry-cleaning business in the area. He began his business in 1941 with one employee. At that time, he operated a tailor shop called Handy Cleaners.  After serving in  WW II, he bought out a dry cleaning business on Second Street. A fire on March 3, 1947, destroyed the business. In Sept. of 1953, a L-shaped plant was built at Fifth and Chestnut streets. In 1964, he employed 28 people. By Oct. of 1970 the building housed offices for the Dept. of Public Assistance. The building is now home to Wilson Testing Laboratories.
