  • (1964) Maurer’s Dairy- In 1993, Kenneth Bethge bought Maurer’s Dairy from James, Ralph and Earl Maurer, sons of the late Darwin Maurer, founder. Products were still made at the Tharptown plant; however, milk was processed in Williamsport. The plant in Tharptown, along Stevens Street, was built in 1930. In 1931, Darwin and his wife, Florence, bought Glenlock Dairy Farm, 1401 W. Independence Street, from Al Welker. In 1937, the ice cream plant opened in Tharptown. There was an addition to the dairy built 1940. Warehouse addition in 1950. In 1962, his sons took over. The sons bought Shamokin Sanitary Milk “Martz Dairy Company” in 1978.
