  • (May 1956) A white granite crucifix, 13 feet high, is erected at the St. Michael's Church Cemetery by workmen. Rev. John Klimas, pastor, said the monument will be dedicated on Memorial Day.
  • St. Mary's Catholic Church- The church was founded for the Slovak speaking people of Shamokin who wanted to conduct services in their native language. In May of 1892, a plot of ground at Cherry and Clay streets was purchased from George Strickland for $3,100. On Feb. 2, 1893, the first mass was held. In 1934, a property at the corner of Cherry and Webster streets was purchased for the site of a school. The building was blessed on March 20, 1938...
