  • (11.03.1975) F&S Brewery in the 200 block of Harrison Street- At 4:45 p.m. in the afternoon of Nov. 3, 1975, residents of the Fifth Ward of Shamokin noticed flames from the back of the F&S Brewery on Harrison Street. At the same time, a city man walking his dog saw two 11-year-old boys running from the scene. Several days later, the boys were charged with destroying the historic brewery by spreading an accelerate in six different locations throughout the plant that stretched a block.<br />
Closed since 1974 due to financial struggles, owners James Verrastro and Murray Smith had hoped to reopen the brewery. More than half the building was destroyed – ending any chance the machines would once again produce beer. (cont)
