(Early 1978) Construction of the Coal Township municipal building. This was called the "Cliff Street Project." Several dilapidated homes were purchased, then razed, by the Northumberland County Redevelopment Authority to make way for the building. In January of 1990, the eastern side of the building was expanded by 14-by-30-foot to house a code enforcement office.

  • (05.08.1952) Perched on top of Boyer's Knob, 1700 feet above sea level, is a 50-foot steel tower that is home, four months out of the year, to John O'Leary, fire warden and protector of state forests in the Shamokin Area. O'Leary will record rainfall and wind data, and checks the moisture in the air by taking three pieces of wood, which have been placed 8-inches off the ground, weighing them and recorded the weight. On a clear day he can see for more than 15 miles in any loft.
